SCHOLARSHIPS

Adopted at the Annual Meeting of Middle Street Baptist Church, January 2020

Two types of scholarships are available: one for higher education after having completed one or more years of education beyond high school, and one for broader educational purposes to include post-secondary education and Christian education.

Elizabeth Barr/Andrew Stancisco Scholarship Fund

Original amount of fund: $12,000

Original amount cannot be used; annual interest may be used.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Member in good standing of the Middle Street Baptist Church

  2. Have completed one or more years of education at a college, university, technical school or academy

  3. Be a first time recipient of monies from this scholarship

Chester Williams/Richard Young Memorial Funds

Original amount of Chester Williams Memorial Fund: $3,200

Original amount of Richard Young Memorial Fund: $20,001

Original amount of either fund cannot be used; annual interest may be used.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Actively involved in Middle Street Baptist Church

  2. Plans to use funds from this scholarship to pursue post-secondary education or Christian education, such as Christian camps, outside courses, seminars, or other similar pursuits.

Applications

Applications will include plans for use of the funds and evidence that receipt of this scholarship will further the applicant’s educational and/or spiritual life.

All applications will be submitted to and approved by the Board of Education.

The minister and treasurer of the church shall approve applications for the Barr/Stancisco Scholarship Fund.

The Board of Christian Education shall approve applications for the Young and Williams Memorial Funds.

Amount of Scholarship

The standard amount of a scholarship from the Barr/Stancisco Scholarship Fund is $1,000.  

The standard amount of a scholarship from the Williams and Young Memorial Funds is $250. 

In future years, this amount may be changed subject to the approval of the Church Council.

Time Frames

  1. The Board of Education will advertise both scholarships with eligibility requirements and deadlines not later than March 15th.

  2. Scholarships will be approved and awarded on a rolling basis, subject to availability of scholarship funds.
